Is NAV 2012 Causing TeamViewer High CPU Usage?
After the pcAnywhere source code hacking, I installed TeamViewer 7.0.12541 on 4 PCs. Three of the PCs have NIS 2012 19.5.0.145 installed and one (the oldest) has NAV 2012 19.5.0.145 installed. The Windows Firewall is enabled and there is no other security/a-v/anti-malware/anti-spyware/etc. programs installed. TV basically works on all of them, but I am having a minor problem with TV on the oldest one. I contacted TV tech support and they suggested uninstalling NAV 2012 to see if it makes any difference. I hate that kind of answer from any software tech support group. :smileymad:
I am remote from this PC (it belongs to my 88 year-old in-laws) and while I know the proper way to uninstall NAV I am very reluctant to uninstall NAV remotely. Plus, I still have the old version of pcAnywhere installed and I know that running the NRT will also uninstall pcAnywhere which I don’t want to do. I am in contact with Symantec about getting the latest version of pcAnywhere, but that is ongoing via emails.
The problem I am seeing on this old PC is that when I start a remote session with it, a TV program named TeamViewer_Desktop.exe starts, but is showing a high amount of CPU usage in Task Manager – at times, over 60%. This really slows down my ability to work on the PC. This program ends when the remote session is over, so there is no CPU impact for local usage once I disconnect my remote session.
By comparison, remote connections to the other PCs only show this same program using 2% of the CPU and these PCs are running NIS 2012, not NAV 2012. Two have P4 CPUs (3.2GHz & 3.0GHz), 2GB RAM running WinXP SP3 & NIS 2012. The third is a fairly new laptop with an i7 dual core CPU, 8GB RAM, Win7 x64 SP1 & NIS 2012.
I have tried disabling Antivirus Auto-Protect and turning off LiveUpdate with no change in CPU usage of this program. I have added the entire TV program folder C:\Program Files\TeamViewer to the Real Time Exclusions list, with no change in CPU usage.
Here are the details of the PC in question:
- AMD Sempron 2800+ 2.0GHz
- 2GB RAM
- WinXP Home SP3 current with all MS critical updates
- NAV 2012 19.5.0.145
- TeamViewer 7.0.12541
My questions are these: Is anyone else using TV with a Norton product? If so, how old is the machine and are you seeing high CPU usage of this program when connect in a remote session?
Personally, I don’t think NAV has anything to do with the problem and uninstalling it would not resolve the issue. I think it may just be a by-product of the age of the PC hardware, but that is just my opinion with no facts to back it up.
Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be welcomed.
High CPU usage by Explorer
System check indicated 75 to 100% CPU usage. This is a new machine with 2G’s of memory and 500G’s of storage. Machine is used to play Zynga games, some emailing and light surfing. Does anyone have similar experience?
Performance Alert, High CPU Usage
I got a performance alert and have a question about info on File Insight.
Next to CPU, it said in red letters: 47% of at least one CPU.
I’m only using one computer; so, what does "of at least one CPU" mean? Don’t understand the meaning of this.
Thanks,
Cody
SRTSP64.SYS huge CPU usage
I noticed a lot of people have problem with CPU spikes with "SYSTEM" process. I’m having this problem too, but different than I expected, the problem is not on Windows, but with NIS 2012. Some time ago I noticed that problem, then I downloaded Process Explorer and I discovered that the Thread ID "216" Start Adress "SRTSP64.sys" is the cause of all my problem. Some research in "System32" and web, discovered that "SRTSP64.sys" is NIS Auto-protect driver. Then I disabled Auto-protect, and cpu usage was normal again…. until started all over again. Disk and memory usage is fine, problem is only with CPU usage, but really, for me that have a dual-core, 50% cpu usage REALLY makes a lot difference. I just cant keep using my pc because my AV use 50% of it constantly.
Engine\19.2.0.10\ccsvchst.exe … running one or more processes high computer usage
I’ve just installed the 2012 version – Norton Internet Security and now my HP tower computer sounds like a jet plane. Running continuously (installed yesterday, this started today). Computer was sitting idle for an hour or so then started running away with itself. I logged in as admin, checked task manager (Windows XP) and found ccsvchst.exe process running away. As I tried to find a setting in Norton to cause it to run less it started another process. I ran a cmd procedure to list directory of entire drive and found Engine.2.0.10\ccsvchst.exe installed as a Norton product.
WHY does it run so much? How can I set it to run less often. If it’s a scanner I don’t need a scan running continuously. I didn’t have this problem with Norton Internet Security 2011.
Does anyone have a solution?
